FA Trophy | Gzira United 4 – Melita 2
Gzira United are through to the quarter final of the FA Trophy after securing a hard fought 4-2 win over Melita.
Gzira took the lead after thirteen minutes. Edison Bilbao Zarate served Haruna Garuba and the latter drilled a low shot past Jozef Spiteri.
Melita equalised on the 29th minute. Jean Pierre Attard’s effort from a free-kick stamped off the post. Michael Cachia took the rebound and placed the ball inside the net.
Edmond Lufi’s side forged ahead on the 42nd minute. Isaac Zammit’s shot was met by Andrew Spiteri who finished home.
The Maroons equalised on the 59th minute. Sofian Domoraud was brought down inside the penalty area by Julian Abela and the referee pointed towards the spot. Andrew Cohen stepped up and converted.
Gzira regained their lead on the 61st minute. Garba fired a shot from the edge of the penalty area that gave the opposing goalkeeper no chance.
Garba completed his hat-trick on the 76th minute. Following a corner, the Nigerian forward hit a low shot that went inside the net.
