Floriana defeat Hamrun thanks to second-half penalties

Floriana defeated Hamrun Spartans 2-0 yesterday afternoon, thanks to two penalties awarded to them in the second-half.

This victory leaves Floriana in a very good position to finish in the runner-up position of the BOV Premier League and a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Both teams were close in the first half to score the opening goal, but some fine goalkeeping from Omar Borg and Lofti Saidi kept the match goalless.

Just three minutes into the second-half Floriana were awarded a penalty.

Hamrun’s Jovan Vukanic handled the ball inside the area and referee Marco Borg immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Ivan Woods made no mistake converting the penalty to give Floriana a one goal lead.

On the 65th  minute Ivan Woods scored again to double Floriana’s lead thanks to another penalty. This time Hamrun player Nikolai Chipev handled the ball in the area following a cross from Ivan Woods.
