Ecclestone: Bahrain race can’t happen

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone admitted today that the recently reinstated Bahrain Grand Prix is now unlikely to take place, with reports continuing to depict bloodshed and conflict in the Arab Kingdom.

The Sakhir comeback to the 2011 calendar follows an FIA investigation which involved a visit the country for Vice President Carlos Gracia.

“Hopefully there'll be peace and quiet and we can return in the future, but of course it's not on (for 2011),” Ecclestone told BBC Sport on Wednesday. “The schedule cannot be rescheduled without the agreement of the participants - they're the facts.”

With the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) having written to governing body FIA, commercial rights holder Ecclestone’s Formula One Management (FOM) and the Bahrain International Circuit, the cancelation of the race appears probable. It is currently set to be staged on 30 October, with India moving to the end of the season.
