ASM-Pasta Poiatti launches the Autocross & Motocross Championships 2011-2012

On Sunday 2nd Oct, ASM launched the National Championships for Autocross and Motocross at Ta Qali Racing Circuits which are again sponsored by Pasta Poiatti.

The Motocross group returned to the track for real competition races in quite large  numbers too. Many have continued practicing motocross riding even during the hot summer  season and this training produced good results too.
In the 250cc Class A, Clayton Camilleri returned to the track after an injury during the  last season and proved his worth. Clayton, riding a KTM SXF 250cc bike won all the three  heats of a very well battled day though Stefan Dimech led the pack for only three Laps  in the first Heat. Second place was challenged between David Dimech on a Kawasaki KXF  and Carmel Borg on a Suzuki.

In the Motocross Class B Charles Borg on his Honda CRF 250cc won all the three heats  though he was pushed hard by Arthur Micallef on another Honda. Though Arthur took the  lead on several occasions he only finished in second place. Renato Mizzi also battled  for second place and it was difficult to preview an order of finish until the very last  lap.
In the Junior class Kyle Camilleri on an 85cc Suzuki won his class too.

In the Autocross races the top three Championship drivers found themselves next to each  other of the nine laps Final A race. From the start Christian Galea (Fiat Ritmo) took  the lead over Patrick Cassar and Emm. Muscat both on Opel Corsa cars. In lap six, Cassar  fouled and took the lead over Galea’s Ritmo. Though Cassar finished in first place he carried a three point penalty. Galea finished in second place and Muscat kept his pace to the end in third place.

In Class B Autocross, the race was battled from the start. Carmel Zammit on Escort Mk 3 took the lead over Philip J Vella and Keith Borg both on Opel Corsa cars. After two laps Zammit took the lead and built a gap which secured him his position as leader, while Vella and Borg finished in 2nd and 3rd places resp.

This Friday, four ASM Motocross Class A Riders supported by Virtu Ferries will be travelling to Gianrizzo Motocross Track in Agrigento. They will be following training prior to their participation in the FMI National Motocross Championship of Sicily later on this month. Stefan Dimech and Josef Attard (Gozitan) will be riding on Honda CRF while Chris Muscat and Clayton Camilleri will be on KTM’s. Frans Deguara, ASM President will accompanying the group during this visit. Josmar Mizzi (Gozitan) and Christian Desira will assist the ASM Motocross team too. This training will be based on a three day schedule. During this visit, the ASM members will be  meeting FMI and UEM  representatives during their stay in Sicily. They will also finalise the preparations for the 2nd visit on the 23rd October where they will be in competition with the top Motocross riders from all over Sicily. We are aiming for high places in Sicily in the result sheet as we have achieved in Calabria two years ago.
