Ferrari's Di Montezemolo has his eyes on 'brilliant' Vettel
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is aiming to secure the services of Sebastian Vettel in the future, hailing the German's ‘very intelligent’ driving approach during a Christmas dinner with Italian media.
The current Red Bull driver holds a remarkable track record in F1, having claimed 30 pole positions, 21 victories and two world titles in just 81 race weekends.
"Vettel is a brilliant driver," Montezemolo explained. "He's young, but seems very intelligent in the way he carries himself. He has a great future, let's see. I like drivers who use their head more than their right foot.
"But (a move) would be on the condition that we don't upset the balance within the team. Today we have a balance, I don't want drivers who will have a problem with each other."
The next seat at Ferrari could become available at the end of the upcoming campaign, if Brazil's Felipe Massa cannot impress the team enough to extend his stay. Meanwhile, Vettel's medium term contract with Red Bull is set to expire in 2014.
