Matthew Gauci wins ASMK Enduro Race at 'Torri Falka'

On Sunday 3rd March 2013 'Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi' (ASMK) successfully organised the 1st Moto Enduro race outside its premises at Ta' Qali where 49 Enduro bikers registered and participated in this race.

ASMK and all riders are satisfied with the event and more over as full permits have been granted by the respective authorities. This is another step forward for the Maltese Motorsport.

The bikers were divided into two classes according to the bike's engine capacity and each group followed a leader along the tough route and were given free practice laps too as a safety measure. They had to ride up and down steep slopes and ridges on route together with natural obstacles in the way.

During the first Timed Run for under 250cc bikers Wayne Zahra on his Yamaha registered best time of 5mins. 27.47 secs. in his class.  Terence Azzopardi on a 250cc Kawasaki placed 2nd with 5 mins. 28.22secs. But during the 2ns Timed Run Azzopardi improved his Time and clocked 5 mins. 18.13 secs. to win this Class A ahead of Wayne Zahra. Keith Schembri placed 3rd on his KTM with 5 mins 34.87 secs

Class B was populated by the bigger boys on more powerful Enduro machines of over 250 cc and up to 530cc engines. James Zahra u also competes in Autocross and Trials registered best time in the 1st timed run. James riding a Suzuki registered 5 mins 11.32 secs. John Attard on a KTM registered the 2nd best time 5 mins 12.47secs and Matthew Salomon on his KTM 530cc registered 5 mins. 16.66 secs.

Surprisingly enough Matthew Gauci on a Yamaha registered a run of 4 mins 53.90 secs. Gary Debono on a Montesa 280cc followed with 4 mins. 58.56 secs. and Alex Sant Fornier on a KTM 450cc did his run in 4 mins. 58.75 secs.

The Overall winner on the day is Matthew Gauci on Yamaha 250cc with 4 mins. 53.90secs.

During the Presentation of Trophies sponsored by Torco, ASMK President informed all present that ASMK will continue its efforts to organise more events of this type in other locations. He also said special thanks to Mr. Paul Xuereb - owner of Torri Falka quarry and Director of Hardrocks Ltd, also sponsors DUNLOP, KTM, Gordon's Moto Centre, Torco and Autologic Performance Centre whose help was much needed. Special thanks were also attributed to an organising team who worked hard all Saturday to plan and lay route for such a big and competitive event.

ASMK also notifies the general public that the next events will be held at the ASMK race Circuits at Ta Qali on Sunday 17th March 2013. First race starts at 11.00am. More info from www.asm.com.mt
