Jacques Mizzi secures 8th row on the starting grid at Brands Hatch
Jacques Mizzi with his Renault Clio has succeeded to finish in a very respectable 16th position with a best lap of 53.340 seconds, after a 30-minute very competitive qualifying session – just 0.784 seconds behind Mike Bushell, his team mate at Westbourne Motorsport, who claimed pole position.
After 2 laps Jacques was in an excellent 8th position just behind the reigning three-time champion Paul Rivett, with a lap time of 59.077 seconds! But then, as Jacques started to improve his laps, so did the majority of the other racing drivers.
After 3 laps, in spite of reducing more than 1 second to record a lap of 57.898 seconds, Jacques dropped to the 20th position. Such was the competition! But he then recovered.
After 18 laps, Jacques was back in the 19th position even though he had reduced his best lap to 53.506 seconds - more than 5 and a half seconds - by the 12th lap!
Racing for 30 minutes may seem as an eternity given that most of the races in which Jacques has participated were shorter. In the end with determination, skill and consistency he managed to climb up to the 15th position after 24 laps, and battled to defend his position as best he could in the remaining laps - winning some and losing some.
Jacques will start from the outside position of the 8th row tomorrow (Sunday) for the first race. All the motor racing fans in Malta wish Jacques the best of luck and success for tomorrow's races.
Live timing will be available on the Timing Solutions Ltd. website, for both races scheduled for 10.20 in the morning and 3.35 in the afternoon, UK time.
