20 races is the limit - Ecclestone

Formula One commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has reiterated the point that he desires no more than 20 races on the calendar, with the amount set to rise to that figure for the first time next year.

FOM Chief Bernie EcclestoneAt present, 2005 and the current season stand atop the record books with the most Grands Prix, with 19 apiece.

However, with India joining the fray, the amount rises by one to create the sport’s longer-ever calendar next season – a fortnight greater in length than the current arrangement.

“We really should be at 16, to be honest,” Englishman Ecclestone explained to The Times of India.

“20 is plenty, that's the limit. No more. I've been able to squeeze in 20 but I wouldn't want to increase it…there'll be mayhem otherwise!”
