Dominant Lorenzo takes sensational pole
Jorge Lorenzo sets a new Pole Record to take his third pole position of the season with Marquez and Rossi completing the front row.
Jorge Lorenzo secured pole position for the San Marino Grand Prix after setting a new lap record at Misano.
Lorenzo clocked a time of 1:32.146 to edge out Honda rival Marc Márquez, while Valentino Rossi hauled himself up to third with a late lap.
Dani Pedrosa completed the factory Yamaha/Honda lock-out up front, while fifth place went to Ducati wild card rider Michele Pirro.
Bradley Smith will line-up from the second row of the grid, ahead of regular Ducati pair Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso.
Danilo Petrucci led Aleix Espargaró, Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaró, the latter falling at Turn 10 during the early stages of the session.
Scott Redding briefly topped Q1 but was shuffled down and will start from 13th place, ahead of Suzuki rider Maverick Viñales.
Yonny Hernández secured 15th position, with Forward's Loris Baz, Jack Miller and Héctor Barberá close behind.
Aprilia rider Stefan Bradl collected 19th place and was on course for a faster lap until he lost the front end at Turn 9.
His team-mate, Álvaro Bautista, was 20th fastest, ahead of Eugene Laverty, Mike di Meglio and Nicky Hayden.
Claudio Corti recovered from early problems to go 24th, leaving Karel Abraham and home rider Alex de Angelis to complete the grid.
