Muscat meets Malta Olympic athletes, promises government’s support
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to include support measures for athletes in Budget 2014.
The Malta Olympic Committee together with a number of athletes today met Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at the Auberge de Castille.
Newly elected president Julian Pace Bonello led the MOC delegation who between 27 May and 2 June will represent Malta at the Games of Small States of Europe in Luxembourg.
In a brief address, Muscat said the country was "confident" with the athletes it was presenting. "We expect all of you to give your best and I am confident that you will do your utmost," the PM said.
He also spoke briefly about government's plans to increase financial and infrastructural support to professional athletes.
"We know which programmes need addressing and we will start acting on them in the coming budget," he said.
Muscat also announced that athlete Josephine Grima will be the flag bearer.
