William Chetcuti eliminated after disappointing double trap first round
Chetcuti failed to progress to the semi-final later on today after finishing the double trap qualification in the 17th place with a total of 123 targets on 5 rounds.
William Chetcuti bowed out of the double trap competition at the Olympics in Rio as he hit a total of 123 target out of 150 to finish in 17th place.
The Maltese athlete was one of the favourites to go through to the semi-final but only managed to hit 22 out of a total of 30 targets in the first round - finishing in 21st place out of 22 athletese - and he was unable recover in the next four rounds to make it to the next phase.
Chetcuti improved his score to 25 targets during the second round to climb two places up to the 19th position, but only managed 24 targets in the third round, moving him to 18th place.
During the fourth and fifth rounds, Chetcuti did well and managed to hit a total of 26 targets in each round. However, this was not enough and he finished 17th with a total of 123 targets over 5 rounds.
The top two athletes were Andreas Loew from Germany and James Willett from Australia, who managed a total of 140 targets to set up a new Olympic record. They s were followed by Tim Kneale from Great Britian who took 3rd place with 139 targets.
