Alligators win first game
On Saturday the Marsa team took on a Naudi XI team which included five players from Bedford England.
The Marsa team batted first in the forty over game. Tony Azzopardi and Andy Lenard opened the batting. Runs were not coming easy with some good bowling from Chris Naudi and Danny Morgan. Azzopardi was first to go making nine runs.
Bikram Arora entered and all were waiting for one of his flashy innings, instead he played a very cautious innings which eventually ended being caught and bowled by Andy Naudi. He made thirteen runs.
The brothers Sacco , Ronie and Mark between them did not worry the scorers at all. This brought in John Grima who also played a cautious innings and made eighteen runs. Lenard was finally caught and top scored with twenty nine runs. John Rusher,Sarfraz Ali, Pierre Naudi and Ian Pendlebury managed five runs between them.
The extras actually top scored with thirty which gave the Marsa team a total of 105 runs from their allotted overs. For Naudi’s team Chris Munroe was the main wicket taker with three while Andy Naudi took two.
The Naudi team’s reply was supreme and they made the runs in twenty one overs. Fred Towers led the onslaught with fifty runs not out including three fours and three sixes. Chris Munroe scored thirty seven runs which included four fours. Chris Naudi scored twelve runs while Chris Hewitt made his debut on a Malta pitch and remained nought not out. For the Marsa team Ronnie Sacco was the main wicket taker with two.
On Sunday the Womens Summer league commenced with the Alligators playing against the Falcons.
The Falcons batted first and made sixty four runs from their allotted fifteen overs. Most of these were scored through wides , to be exact forty four of the runs. Of the bat Brenda Agius was the highest scorer with six, while Megan Llewlyn and Dorienne Bonello both made three runs. For the Alligators, Amy Caruana, Rose Bulteel and Nadia Gosney all took a wicket.
In reply the Alligators made the runs in the thirteenth over. A lot of the runs were also made through wides (thirty four). Rose Bulteel batted well and scored eight runs, While Adelaide Sammut (five runs ) , Marion Pullicino (four runs) and Rebecca De Gaetano (three runs not out) all did well.
In the second game the Alligators won through a walkover and now lead the ladder with four points while Falcons and Overseas have no points.
Next Saturday sees the Marsa team take on new touring team Reservoir .C.C from England. On Sunday the Womens league continues with a possibility of a game against HMS Ironduke as well.
