Alligators win second title

Another busy weekend for Cricket. On Saturday, the men’s Summer league got underway with last years winners Melita C.C taking on Marsa C.C.

The Marsa team batted first and lost a couple of quick wickets. The following batsmen made up for the early loss. Mark G.Sacco seventeen runs, George Agius twenty three runs, Ronnie Sacco thirty three runs and Derek Ali fifteen runs.

These all contributed towards a reasonable total of 120 runs. For Melita Andy Naudi was the main wicket taker with three while Martin Llewelyn took two. The Melita reply was stable but once they had lost Andy Naudi (twenty seven runs), Justin Brooke (thirteen runs) and Nowell Khosla (seventeen runs) all seemed lost.

New hope was pulsated into the Melita team when Ian Pendlebury hit a big six and then followed it up with a switch hit which went for four, but alas it was not enough to take his team to victory. Melita finishing five runs short of their target. George Agius was the main wicket taker for Marsa with two. Marsa earned seven points from the win while Melita earned one.

In the second game Krishna C.C took on Overseas C.C. Overseas batted first and were off to a very slow start and eventually scored 79 runs from their allotted overs. Paul Bradley was the highest scorer with seventeen runs, Justin Barloggio scored twelve runs and Roger Bradley nine runs as the main contributors. For Krishna Andy Lenard was the main wicket taker with three.

In reply Krishna made the runs in the seventeenth over. Andy Lenard top scored with twenty nine runs and Bikram Arora chipped in with thirteen runs. For Overseas Paul Bradley was the main wicket taker with three. Krishna C.C earned seven points from the win while Overseas C.C earned one point.

On Sunday the Women’s Summer League came to a close with the Alligators playing the Falcons. The Alligators batted first and totalled 71 runs with R.Twigg top scoring with seventeen runs. Nadia Gosney scored six runs while Lorna Mifsud and Yasmine Azzopardi both scored five runs. For the Falcons Talitha Van Colen was the only wicket taker.

In reply the Falcons had a much better start than their rivals with A.Caruana top scoring with twenty one runs. After this great start the Alligator bowlers did a great job containing. The game went to the last ball with the scores tied at 71 runs. The bowler bowled the ball the batswomen swung at the ball missed, no run , game tied the second tie in the league.  Was the main wicket taker with two and also took a catch. A tie was all the Alligators needed and won the Summer league title, it is their second from two played.

Last Tuesday, the Marsa team took on Leyland C.C in a twenty over game in which Leyland batted first and totalled 126 runs. Beard was their top scorer with twenty eight runs. For Marsa Nowell Khosla was impressive with the ball taking four wickets.

The Marsa reply was feeble with the home side only making 84 runs with Derek Ali top scoring with twenty eight runs. For the visitors Sifton Prince was the main wicket taker with three. Marsa lose the game and the series two to nil.

 

Next Saturday the Men’s Summer league continues with Melita C.C taking on Krishna C.C and Overseas playing Marsa C.C.
