Melita upset Marsa

The Marsa team batted first and the Melita bowlers bowled out of their skins with some very good figures. The stand out was Martin Llewelyn who took four wickets in his spell. Joy Ghoseroy was rewarded with three wickets. An impressive spell from Nowell Khosla who only had fifteen runs taken from his five overs was left wicket less.

For Marsa Ronnie Sacco was their top scorer with sixteen runs not out. The next high score was extras with fifteen, no one else made it into double figures. The Marsa team were bowled out for 65 runs, their lowest total in the competition.  The Melita team were quite confident until George Agius ripped through the top order bowling four batsmen which had the Melita team worrying. Dave Borg bowled well taking two wickets which further added woes to Melita’s chances.

In walks David Eyon to the crease  and made light work of some very good bowling smashing twenty runs from fifteen balls faced and taking his team to victory. From the win Melita  earned ten points and Marsa earned a point. Melita are now equal on points with Marsa at the top of the league with 25 points each.

In the second game Krishna C.C took on Overseas  C.C. Overseas batted first and totalled the highest batting total of 133 runs. Mike Caruana (twenty nine runs retired), Justin Barloggio (twenty nine runs) and Sean Bradley (twenty four runs not out) were the main contributors to the score. For Krishna Darren Grech bowled well and took two wickets. The Krishna reply was of to a flyer with Andy Lenard making twenty nine runs from eighteen balls and Sunny Krishna  thirty five runs from twenty eight balls.

Darren Grech batted well and scored twenty one runs twenty three balls and had to retire. After these batsmen were gone the Overseas bowlers kept a level head and were able to bowl the Krishna batsmen out. Overseas win their first game by eleven runs. Mike Caruana took three wickets while Roger Bradley took two. From the win Overseas earned nine points and Krishna one point.  Overseas have now leap frogged Krishna and are now third place with eleven points while Krishna have ten.

Next Saturday Melita C.C take on Krishna C.C and Marsa C.C take on Overseas C.C.
