Marsa take top spot

On Saturday the Cricket Summer league continued. The first game was between Melita C.C and Krishna C.C.

Melita batted first and it was not one of their best days and had the Krishna bowlers not bowled so many wides , it could have been much worse. Melita totalled 81 runs with Justin Brooke top scoring with twenty three runs not out. Greg Symons bated well and managed eighteen runs. Joy Ghoseroy was the only other batsmen to make it into double figures making twelve runs. For Krishna three bowlers, Adam Krishna, Will Nichols and Bikram Arora all took a wicket each. One must mention the run out of Nowell Khosla who was running for a single and a direct hit by Kevin Krishna had him short of his ground. An inspiring piece of fielding.

In reply it took Krishna just over seventeen overs to make the runs. Sunny Krishna opened the batting and kept on going from where he left off last week scoring thirty three runs from the thirty balls he faced including two big sixes and two fours. Bikram Arora scored nineteen runs which included three fours. John Grima saw his team over the line with ten runs. Nowell Khosla took two wickets for Melita and Gordon Hewitt one. Krishna earned seven points while Melita earned one point and now have too Win their last game to have any chance for the title.

In the second game the Marsa team batted first and were kept to 110 runs in their twenty overs. Mat Booth scored twenty four runs and Frank Spiteri played a match winning twenty three runs from thirteen balls which included one six and two fours. Dave Borg made twelve runs and was fantastically run out by a direct hit by Sean Duffy. Derek Ali chipped in with fifteen runs. For Overseas Mike Caruana and Roger Bradley took a wicket each.

The Overseas reply started well with Mike Caruana and Paul Bradley both managing to face their thirty balls and both making twenty six runs. The Overseas batsmen all put in a good effort but just fell short by six runs. For Marsa Ronnie Sacco took two wickets while George Agius and Derek Ali took a wicket each. With this win Marsa are now six point clear of Melita. If Melita win their last game, Marsa must win their last game or the title will not be theirs.

Next Saturday only one game will be played that between Melita C.C and Overseas C.C. The Game between Marsa C.C and Krishna C.C will be played on the 17th of September.
