Marsa to strong for Mostyn team
On Saturday the Marsa C.C played against the thirteenth touring team of the year, Ted Mostyn C.C who were on their second tour, their previous tour was seven years ago.
The visitors batted first and quickly lost their opening batsmen Phil Dobson for two runs in the first over. The next three batsmen all got good starts and were looking to take the game away from the Marsa team. A great effort by Mark G Sacco had the second opening batsman run out for twenty two runs. Don Aslow also scored twenty two runs and Barney Chase top scored with twenty four runs including two sixes and a four. After these fourteen was the highest score by P K. The batsmen were mesmerised by the bowling of Gordon Hewitt who took four wickets from just under four overs and only eleven runs. Kevin Krishna and Sarfraz Ali also bowled well and took two wickets a piece. Sunny Krishna also chipped in with a wicket. The visitors were bowled out in the thirty first over and totalled a mere 111 runs.
In reply Marsa lost opening batsmen Chris Naudi in the third over, who scored nine runs. Sunny Krishna took a liking to the bowling and had scored four fours before he was judged LBW for twenty five runs. Mark G Sacco batted well and scored twenty one runs before he was caught. Sam Aquilina played a cautious innings and scored eleven runs.
Ronnie Sacco tried to out do the attacking which had been done earlier by Sunny , but only managed to hit three fours before being stumped for eighteen runs. Robert Krishna scored six runs while Javed Shah (five runs0 and Sarfraz Ali (three runs) saw the home team over the line. The home team made the runs in the eighteenth over. For the visiting team six bowlers , Deak,Dobbs,Barnett,Thorne, Taff and PK all took a wicket.
Next Saturday the Cricket academy/nursery commences from 9:00am till 10:30am. At 11:00am the last game of the Summer league between Marsa C.C and Krishna C.C will take place. Depending on the result will see if Marsa or Melita will win the title.
