Malta Baseball & Softball Association hold Little League Tournament

Last Sunday MABS started the first edition of the Little League Tournament. For those of you who are not familiar with Little League, it is a non profit organisation aimed at promoting the games of Baseball and Softball through volunteers.

The Malta Baseball & Softball Association (MABS) has been affiliated with Little League International since 2001. Little League Baseball is the largest organized youth sports organization in the world with nearly 2.6 million players all around the world.

Malta's Little League Tournament will consist of players under the age of 16, registered with clubs affiliated to MABS. The players are pooled together and two coaches have drafted the players into two "Leagues" of two teams each.These teams will participate in a three game series. The Leagues are classified as follows:

Little League Major Division is for boys and girls ages 9-12

Little League Senior Division is for boys and girls ages 13-15

The first game was played last Sunday in Mellieha where the teams 'North' vs 'South' played the first 5 inning game of their three game series with the South team winning game one with a score of 9 -2. The game was competative but played in a friendly spirit as team-mates from different clubs were mixed together.

The Little League Major Division Game 2 will be played next Sunday 27^th November again at Mellieha and Game 3 at Marsa Baseball field on the 13^th December.
