Men's First Division

Valletta vs Aloysians 3-0

Valletta the reigning champions were defeated by Aloysians Defenders in a three set thriller. Aloysians were showing signs of improvement from last year and with the win aginst Valletta in the pre season cup their confidence had increased.  They also had the help of Cypriot Stavros Paraskevopolous as setter and also had Lithuanian central player Kestutis Saulis debuting with them.

Aloysians started with a good lead however during the first set the experienced Valetta squad put them under pressure with good attacks by Cedric Bondin. Valletta took the lead and were close to winning the first set until two consecutive points by Aloysians ended the set in their favour.

The second set was not as balanced as the first with Valletta gaining their points mostly through Robert Balzan. Aloysians showed strong blocks from Kestutis Saulis and Ron Stivala and were also helped in defence by Gordon Cachia who played as libero.

In the third set Aloysians had no difficulties in wrapping up the set and game against a demoralised Valletta.
