Borg and Cutajar to take part in the 2012 EBSA European Snooker Championships

Local snooker champion Alex Borg and top female player Roberta Cutajar will be representing Malta at the 2012 EBSA European Snooker Championships which will be played between the 4th and 14th of June.

152 players from 32 countries will compete in the championships which will be played on 16 tables at the Olympic Sport Centre in the city of Daugavpils in Latvia. 80 players will feature in the Mens championship, 48 in the Masters (Over 40) category while 24 ladies will compete for the Womens title.

Borg will take part in the Mens championship while Cutajar is taking part for the second time in the Women's category. The 80 players in the Mens category were divided into sixteen groups of five players each with the top three in each group qualifying into the last 48 knock-out stages. Borg has won these championships in 2005 and 2006 and was also a finalist in 1998 and 2004. He has been drawn in Group C together with Sascha Lippe of Germany, Shay Arama of Israel, Vladislav Kalinovski of Belarus and Latvia's Janis Bindze. Matches in the round robin stages for the Men will be over the best of 7 frames.

In the Ladies category the 24 players were divided into four groups of six players each with the top four placed in each group qualifying into the last 16 knock-out stage. Cutajar who reached the semi final on her first appearance in last year's edition in Bulgaria is in Group B together with Irina Gorbataya of Russia, Touzani Nawal of Belgium, Stephanie Teschner of Germany, Inese Lukashevska of Latvia and Weronika Novicka of Poland. Matches will be played over the best of five frames.
