MBA signs agreement with DETUR as National Team Sponsors
During a press conference held in one of the main hotels in Sliema, the Malta Basketball Association and Detur Operations and Trade Ltd. signed a sponsorship agreement.
Detur will be the main sponsor of all the national teams and also the sponsor of the super cup and MBA shield competitions. A new Detur Super Championship will be introduced from next season as well. The agreement was signed by Mr. Sinan Onem Managing Director of Detur Operations and Mr. Steve Muscat Financial Director of the MBA in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary of Youth and Sport Hon. Clyde Puli.
Speaking during the conference Magistrate Antonio Mizzi said that this is a very important day for the Maltese Basketball. He announced that Detur will form part of the structure of the association and that the collaboration between the two sides will continue to increase during the coming years. He also said that this will be a very exciting summer for MBA in view of the coming competitions and the refurbishment programme of the Ta’ Qali pavilion. Detur will also be the sponsor of the Men FIBA Europe Division C championship which will be played in the University Complex next month. Mr. Onem on behalf of Detur said he was very satisfied that after months of discussions this agreement was concluded. The sponsorship is for season 2010 with the possibility of extending it further. He concluded that Detur are confident that this agreement will be productive for both sides for the years to come.
In a short speech Hon Puli thanked Mr. Onem for placing thrust in the Maltese sport. Mr. Puli said that this thrust gives peace of mind that our sport is excelling. He also thanked the MBA for once again organizing an international competition in Malta which means that sports tourism will once again increase. He wished luck to all the national teams who will be taking part in the FIBA competitions in the next weeks.
Meanwhile during the press conference the Women National coaches spoke few hours before they leave for Armenia where the FIBA Europe Division C will be played next week. National coach Santino Coppa said that he is confident that once again the Maltese women will do their best to obtain a wonderful result as they did in the last years. The team will once again include top established players like Rebecca Brincat Thoresen, Ashleigh Vella and Josephine Grima with the introduction of a couple of youngsters. Malta will be playing the first game On Monday 28th June against Wales. The Maltese contingent led by MBA vice President Joe Depasquale Schranz will leave Malta Sunday morning.
