Maltese women’s basketball team routs Scotland 64-35
Malta’s women’s basketball team showed their superiority yesterday when they beat Scotland 64-35 in their opening game of the FIBA Europe Euro C Championships in Yerevan, Armenia.
Josephine Grima had eight points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks for Malta. Down 34-17 at half-time, the Scots, coached by Aussie Trudi Hopgood, converted only 14 of their 45 two-point shot attempts and one from 11 of their three-point efforts.
Not one of the Scots’ managed into double figures, Emma Findlay (Edinburgh Kool Kats) leading the scoring with seven points and clubmate Sarah O'Brien adding six. Scotland play Wales today in a must-win game if they were to avoid playing Gibraltar for the last placing.
