Excellent performance by "The Jet" in Portugal

Daniel "the Jet" Zahra had a Kickboxing match which was broadcasted live on Eurosport. Although he showed total control in all the rounds the judges' final decision gave the victory to his opponent.

Zahra competed with Bruno Torres from Portugal for the World Kickboxing Network (WKN) World Title with kickboxing rules. The match was 5x2 on a professional level with gloves only. The match was scheduled before the final bout in the international Boxing competition Biggers' Better.

From the first round "the Jet" began to take control of the ring with leg techniques to keep the distance and repeatedly hitting Torres. From his part the Portuguese athlete began to move around to find an opening in Zahra's defense. More than once Zahra took points by hitting Torres with "Axe Kicks" in the face. The technique of the Maltese was constantly changing his stance and thereby Torres never could understand from which side the attack would come.

Because the canvas of the ring was wet from the previous Boxing matches both Zahra and Torres began to slip during the action. In the last two rounds the athletes began using more Boxing techniques and to go in close quarters. It was in the fifth round that Torres hit Zahra with a "Spinning Hook Kick", but it was not enough to stop the Maltese. Zahra counterattacked with Boxing and the Portuguese ended up with the left eyebrow open.

In the end the "judges" gave the victory by points to Torres with controversial comments from Eurosport's commentators and other athletes. Indeed also the K1 legend, Ernesto Hoost, found Daniel and said it was of the opinion that he had to win. The next match for Zahra will be in March for a 7x2 in Savate. Noel Azzopardi will also compete in a 5x2 match with the same rules.
