Young Maltese gymnasts to compete in Colchester, UK

GymStars Gymnastics Club will travel to Colchester, Essex for an International competition for Artistic Gymnastics on 20 and 21 April.

19 Maltese gymnasts who form part of the Development Squads at Gymstars will be competing in the meeting hosted by the international club in Colchester, Essex in England. Athletes ages range from seven to 12.

“This is a great opportunity for these youngsters and the idea of travelling abroad is the expose them to the real world of being competitive gymnasts from a young age and this will help them to develop confidence in competitions” said Sandra Borg director of GymStars.

Some of these gymnasts already travelled twice to compete abroad and have made their mark internationally. They have travelled both to UK and Belgium and returned with a hail of medals. These competitions are all based on development competitions for their age. These girls will compete against Belgian clubs, Jersey, and clubs from England.

These girls will also have the opportunity to support Team Malta as they will be attending the same competition. Most of the team is formed from GymStars – girls that form part of the National Gymnastics Team and are participating in preparation for the Island Games, being held in Corsica and the Small Nation Games which will be held in Luxembourg.

All gymnasts are being prepared by the Bulgarian coaches: Plamen Peynov, Antonina Uzunova , Ivelin Ivanov and our Maltese coach under the directive of Ivelin Ivanov - Denise Galea, all of whom are qualified with a Masters of Sport in Gymnastics.

When coming back from the UK, GymStars is also preparing their club members for their GymFests which are going to be held In May and June. For those who are interested in our programs for the Summer - please phone on 21660903.
