Weightlifting test event on 21 April, 2013

With the upcoming spectacle looming, the Malta Weightlifting Association shall host a test even on Sunday, 21st April, at 9.30 at the Cottonera Sport Complex which shall act as a preparatory competition for the European Small Nations and Charles Mifsud Open, both to be carried out the following Saturday.

It has been a very positive few weeks for the Malta Weightlifting Association. President Jesmond Caruana has just returned from the European Weightlifting Championships, where he assumed the prestigious role of referee. This represented a positive step in solidifying international support for the Maltese Weightlifting Association and our island's place on the international Weightlifting map, as President Caruana discussed with the governing bodies many opportunities such as international courses in such fields as refereeing and coaching our sport, as well as tremendous opportunities for our athletes to participate in training camps abroad.

The highlight of this, however, was that of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) tripartite Commission's approval of the request of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) that the Malta Weightlifting Association receive one female quota for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
