Amateur cyclist Ishmael Muscat has died in a traffic incident in Heifei, in China, earlier today, the Malta Triathlon Association announced.

Muscat, born 1981, was said to have been hit by a motor vehicle. The Malta Triathlon Federation expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Muscat.

Educated at St Edward's College, in Birgu, was a lecturer in ESL (English as a Second Language) at the Wanbo Institute of Science & Technology, and was fluent in mandarin Chinese.

In May 2012 he won the first edition of the ChuZhou city Shun Shan Cup mountain bike race held in the Chinese province of Anhui.
