Four Maltese players to take part in the 2013 EBSA European Snooker Championships

Four Maltese snooker players will leave the country tomorrow (Tuesday) to represent Malta in the 2013 EBSA European Snooker Championships which will be played between the 28th May and 06th of June.

The players are Malta champion Duncan Bezzina, top player on the local snooker ranking list Alex Borg, third on ranking Mario Brincat and top lady player Roberta Cutajar.

146 players from 29 countries will compete in the championships which will be played on 16 tables at the Olympic Sport Centre in the city of Zielona Gora in Poland. 76 players will feature in the Mens championship, 42 in the Masters (Over 40) category while 28 ladies will compete for the Womens title.

Bezzina, Borg and Brincat will take part in the Mens championship while Cutajar is taking part in the Women's category. The 76 players in the Mens category were divided into twelve groups of six or seven players each with the top four in each group qualifying into the last 48 knock-out stages. Borg has won these championships in 2005 and 2006 and was also a finalist in 1998 and 2004. Matches in the round robin stages for the Men will be over the best of 7 frames.

In the Ladies category the 28 players were divided into four groups of seven players each with the top four placed in each group qualifying into the last 16 knock-out stage. Cutajar reached the semi final on her first appearance in the 2011 edition in Bulgaria. Matches in the group stages will be played over the best of five frames.
