Division 1 Malta Cricket weekend review

On Saturday the Division 1 Malta Cricket Summer League continued with Krishna C.C playing Overseas C.C.

Krishna won the toss and elected to bat first. Robert Scerri and Andy Lenard opened the batting. Scerri was first to go being bowled by Peter Bradley for six runs.

Adam Krishna was next in and next out being caught by Sean Duffy of the bowling of Roger Bradley. Robert Krishna did not worry the scorers making a duck giving Peter his second wicket. Bokram Arora blasted eighteen runs before being bowled by Steve Jones.

Lenard’s incredible innings then came to an end being bowled by Roger (his second wicket) for fifty eight runs. He was bowled on the thirtieth ball he faced. Had he survived he would have retired and would have been able to go back in (local rule).

Sunny Krishna returned to the scene and proved he has not lost all his touch with the bat scoring fifteen runs being trapped lbw by Duffy who also ended with two wickets.

Playing in his first summer league game Mike Rawle (who is the Malta representative umpire  who has just returned from umpiring at the ICC European Under 17 Championships, 2nd Division 2010.) made a single before being caught and bowled by Duffy. The Overseas gave away thirty seven extras which did not help their cause.

The big positive they will take from the game is that they bowled out the Krishna side in sixteen and a half overs. The Krishna side totalled 151 runs.

An outstanding bowling display from three of the Krishna players wrapped up the game for them. Overseas managed to score thirty two runs only which included seven extras. Peter Bradley was the main scorer with fourteen runs, followed by Phil Gibbs who scored eight runs.

Sean Duffy was the only other batsman who scored runs (three). Their were four ducks in the innings. The bowlers who took the wickets were Robert Krishna who took three wickets, Kevin Krishna who took two wickets while Adam Krishna and Mike Rawle took a wicket each.

From their Win Krishna C.C earned ten points while Overseas C.C earned their first two points.

Next Saturday Overseas C.C will play the current leaders Melita C.C starting at 10:30am.
