Swimming from Malta to Gozo for Inspire

The highly anticipated Open Water Swimming Challenge, being organised by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club will be held today, Saturday 21st August 2010.

Two races are being held as part of this challenge; the Malta-Gozo-Malta Swim and the Gozo-Malta Swim. The Gozo-Malta Swim shall see participants attempting a swimming distance of 5.5 kilometres from Ras il-Qala in Gozo, proceeding on the shortest possible route towards the island of Comino and finishing at a marking buoy at Marfa.

On the other hand, the Malta-Gozo-Malta shall see swimmers attempting a more ambitious challenge where participants will attempt a swimming distance of 11km from Marfa Quay in Malta to Hondoq ir-Rummien in Gozo and back.

Inspire’s aim is to promote healthy living amongst the local community through organised sports activities, whilst also offering a challenge for those who like to push themselves and reach a goal. This will allow Inspire to reach its goal of further enhancing the quality of life of thousands of disabled persons, through a range of professional services, including therapeutic, educational, recreational and inclusive programmes.

Participants will raise funds by asking family members, partners and colleagues to support their efforts by committing to donate to Inspire. Inspire urges the general public to support this event and our cause by donating via sms with the text Gozo-Malta on following numbers: 50618926 for €6.99 or 50619215 for €11.65.
