Open Water Swimming Challenge 2010 a success!

The Open Water Swimming Challenge organised by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club last Saturday 21st August 2010 was a resounding success.

Davina Mangion placed first with an outstanding performance in the inaugural 11-kilometre Malta-Gozo-Malta Race in two hours 45 minutes 48 seconds. Robert Vella and Suzanne Farrugia were the male and female winners in the Gozo-Malta swim which covered 5.5 km distance. They raced against twenty-nine male and 17 female swimmers.

This challenging event was organized in aid of Inspire. Inspire’s aim is to promote healthy living amongst the local community through organised sports activities, whilst also offering a challenge for those who like to push themselves and reach a goal. This will allow Inspire to reach its goal of further enhancing the quality of life of thousands of disabled persons, through a range of professional services, including therapeutic, educational, recreational and inclusive programmes.

Swimmers raised funds by asking family members, partners and colleagues to support their efforts by committing to donate to Inspire. Donations can still be made by donating via sms with the text Gozo-Malta on following numbers: 50618926 for €6.99 or 50619215 for €11.65.
