KMS launches new non-Olympic sports funding scheme
The Malta Sports’ Council (KMS) has launched a new funding scheme open to non-Olympic sport entities registered with the KMS. A total of 17 sport disciplines would benefit from this scheme which had an initial allocation of €28,250 for 2010.
The KMS explained how this scheme would also provide grants for training and technical preparations for competitions or international competitions, including partially assisting in the expenses involved for travelling and/or participating and/or training camps abroad.
Through this scheme, KMS was creating “further opportunities at national level for non-Olympic sports athletes to grow and sustain their participation.
The associations that will be benefiting from this scheme include the Malta Netball Association; Malta Rugby Football Union; National Federation of Sports Anglers; Malta Baseball and Softball Association; Malta Billiards and Snooker Association; International Federation Body Builders Malta; Malta Chess Federation; Malta Cricket Association; Malta Dancesport Association; Malta Darts Association; Malta Golf Association; Malta Karate Federation; Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi; Malta Pool Association; Malta Racing Club; Malta Table Football Sports Association; and Malta Tenpin Bowling Association.
The KMS explained how in its strive to instigate a sport culture, it endeavoured “to develop and implement sport programmes targeting all members of the Maltese community”.
KMS, as both regulator and provider of services in the sport and active leisure sector, was also committed to supporting local sports “from grassroots to the highest level of sport.
This was achieved in a number of ways – through investing in the provision of a number of support programmes, which offered financial subsidies and/or provision of facilities to KMS-registered sports associations, federations and clubs.
