Malta Cricket summer league weekend review

On Sunday the Malta Cricket Summer League division two continued. Betfair C.C played against RMG CC.

Betfair won the toss and elected to bat first. Joy Ghoseroy and Tony Slater opened the batting. The two Nigels from the RMG, Stibbs and Hall kept the batsmen quiet. Hall eventually had Ghoseroy LBW for eleven runs. Stibbs then Bowled Slater (two runs) and then had Grech caught on his next ball. George Agius and Phil Gibbs were both out to Chris Stevenson.

Agius chasing a slightly wider delivery and hit it straight to a fieldsman, he had made fourteen runs including two fours. Gibbs hit a wonderful pull shot for four runs and then a couple balls later was bowled. Derek Ali came to the crease and literally took the game out of reach for the RMG.

Ali hit an amazing seventy two runs from thirty balls faced. He hit eight fours and five sixes along the way. Ian Pendulbury supported Ali and then David Eynon who also hit a six and a four on his way to twenty three runs not out from ten balls faced. Pendulbury was eventually bowled for eight runs.

The Betfair team totaled 150 runs from their allotted overs.
The RMG tried hard to make the runs but in doing so played risky shots and paid the price. Chris Stevenson was the main scorer making fifteen runs not out. Chris Stahl scored seven runs, Nigel Stibbs fourteen runs and Geoff Pickle scored six runs.For Betfair, Joy Ghoseroy was the main wicket taker with three while Darren Grech took two. From The win Betfair earned nine points taking their tally too seventeen points, taking them to second place. RMG CC earned their first point.

The final game of the Division two will be played on October 10th where Betfair C.C take on Gozo C.C. Betfair will need to win the game if they are to take the title, if they lose then Mellieha will tale the title.

Next Saturday, division 1, Marsa C.C take on Melita C.C at 10:30am.
