Cricket Summer league weekend review
On Saturday the Cricket Summer league division one continued with the Marsa C.C taking on Overseas C.C.
The Overseas won the toss and elected to bat. Phil Gibbs and Roger Bradley opened the batting. Bradley was Malcolm Crabbe’s first wicket of three. Bradley made eight runs from fourteen balls faced. Bradley’s runs came from two boundaries. Gibbs played a solid innings and faced his thirty balls and retired making fifteen runs. He later returned and faced a further eleven balls and scored nine more runs. He also remained not out. Allan McKay batted well and scored ten runs. Justin Barloggio chipped in with four runs before his team was bowled out. With nine extras the Overseas ended up with a total of 68 runs. Justin Thorne was also a wicket taker for the Marsa side with two.
For Marsa the father and son combination of the Rusher’s opened the batting. Tom was first to go being caught brilliantly by the sub fielder after facing four balls. John lasted nineteen balls before he two was caught brilliantly for three runs. Malcolm Crabbe smashed fourteen runs from ten balls before being caught which included three fours. Mark G.Sacco (nineteen runs not out) and Justin Thorne (twenty three runs not out) made sure of the win. For the Overseas team Alex Goddard, Roger Bradley and Brian Dalton were the only wicket takers with a wicket each.
With the win the Marsa team have leapt to top position with 32 points. Melita C.C are second with 31 points, Krishna C.C third with twelve points and Overseas C.C fourth with three points.
Next weekend the Marsa team take on returning touring team Chelsea Arts Club C.C who last toured in October 2004 in which the Marsa team won the series two to nil.
Both Games start at 10:30am.
