Malta Cricket weekend review
On Saturday the scheduled Cricket Division Two game between Betfair C.C and Gozo C.C was unusually abandoned.
The only cricket which took place was the cricket academy in the morning. The game was to be played straight after the academy was finished.
As players were preparing to go out to play, the darkened skies burst open and left the players with no choice but to abandon the game. Therefore the points were split three points a piece to the teams. Gozo had nine points and ended third on the ladder with twelve points. RMG CC ended bottom with one point.
Betfair’s three points took them from seventeen points to twenty points equal in points with Mellieha C.C. In this case the league had to be determined by net run rate which is the run rate per over that a team scores, minus the run rate per over that is scored against them calculated for all the games which were played.
Mellieha C.C net run rate was 0.81 while Betfair C.C net run rate came to 3.1. Therefore Betfair C.C have won the first division two competition.
Next weekend will see the last two games of the first division. The first game (10:30am start) will be between Melita C.C and Overseas C.C and the second game (2:00pm start) will be between Marsa C.C and Krishna C.C. A win by Melita will secure the title.
From 9:00 till 10:30 am the academy will be held.
