Malta Cricket: Successful weekend for Marsa C.C.

On Saturday the second game of the MCA Winter league was played between league leaders Betair C.C and Marsa C.C.

Betfair won the toss and elected to bat first.  Malcolm Crabbe and John Grima opened the batting.  Derek Ali opening the bowling, steamed in and bowled a short pitched for his first ball of the match which Crabbe tried to hook , managing only to get an edge which went to the wicket keeper Aquilina.

Greg Symons came to the crease and put on forty two runs with Grima before being caught. He made fourteen runs. Grima managed to retire and eventually came back to the crease and remained twenty one runs not out. From there on no Betfair player could make it into double figures.  Andy Naudi (six runs), Tony Slater (six runs), Bikram Arora (five runs), Justin Brooke (two runs), Chris Naudi (one run) Ian Pendlebury (no runs) and Jim Heasman (one run).

Betfair were aided with ten extras and managed a total score of 68 runs. For Marsa the bowling was amazing with Derek Ali taking three wickets, while Gordon Hewitt and Jai Kumar both two wickets. Sam Aquilina ended with three catches and was involved in two run outs.

With sixty nine runs to make, one would think it is an easy task, the Marsa team were made to toil hard and lost five wickets before upsetting the holders. 

Javed Shah scored twenty runs while Kumar topped of his bowling making twenty two runs not out. Sam Aquilina scored seven runs and Sarfraz Ali six runs. Ronnie Sacco entering after two quick wickets fell and his team needing eight runs to win, blocked the first ball and hit the next two balls to the boundary and took his team to victory. For Betfair, Andy Naudi took three wickets and Kevin Krishna took two.

From the win Marsa earned ten points.

Next Saturday Marsa C.C take on Krishna C.C at 10:00am. The nursery will be from 9:00 am till 10:30am.
