RORC 'Yacht of the Year’ Visit Malta Puma goes from strength to strength
Royal Ocean Racing Club Yacht of the Year Visit Malta Puma is proving to be a winner, achieving top results in her races so far this year, bearing her newly branded livery of proud sponsors Visit Malta.
The boat, which is sponsored by the Malta Tourism Authority, is run by leading race training and yacht charter company Sailing Logic, which offers racing opportunities on all the key UK and Ireland races, as well as Malta’s offshore Rolex Middle Sea Race.
This exciting partnership between the Malta Tourism Authority and Sailing Logic has evolved as a direct result of the yacht’s successful racing campaign in 2009. This year, the boat‘s extensive racing calendar started with the Warsash Spring Series in which she scored a second place in Black Group IRC2. Her programme also includes the Round Ireland Race, Cork Week, Cowes Week and seven RORC offshore races.
So far the boat has fared extremely well, often competing with top professional crews and boats, and yet managing to steal the limelight by winning races.
Her greatest achievement so far has been the RORC Cervantes Cup, an offshore race to Le Havre, France. With a spinnaker start heading East out of the Solent, Visit Malta Puma put in a solid performance to be in the lead pack as the fleet headed out into the English Channel, powering on to place first overall.
It is now two RORC races overall in a row that Visit Malta Puma have won.
Alex Incorvaja, Director UK and Ireland, Malta Tourism Authority stated ‘the boat’s successful racing campaign adds value and prestige to Visit Malta. As the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s ‘Yacht of the Year’ the team aboard the yacht is creating significant brand exposure promoting Malta as a leading European tourism destination in both the UK and in Ireland’. The huge white Maltese Cross featured on Visit Malta Puma’s red spinnaker has been turning heads in the Solent as she powers around its race courses bringing back some impressive results.
The boat is currently racing in the Conway Media Round Ireland Race.
