MUSIC TONIGHT Claire Tonna and Michael Galea (intimate gig) Performance by Claire Tonna (Particle Blue) on guitar and vocals and Michael Galea (Brikkuni) on percussion at Taverna Sugu Restaurant in Birgu. Doors open at 18:00. SEPTEMBER 24, 25 Falcon’s Flying Circus live The classic-progressive rock band will be performing at Rookies Bar, Bugibba. Doors open at 21:30. SEPTEMBER 30 Concerto per l’Unità d’Italia Concert of operatic music by Italian composers Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini, Catalani and Verdi at the Manoel Theatre at 20:00. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and well-known soprano Lucia Aliberti perform under the baton of the theatre’s Music Director Brian Schembri. The concert is being held in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy and the Istituto Culturale Italiano. ART UNTIL SEPTEMBER 25 The Papal Corpus Christi Procession during the reign of Pope Gregory XVI An exhibition of illustrations and memorabilia at St John’s Hall Cittadella Centre for Culture and the Arts related to this annual procession by Salvatore Busuttil (artist of Gozitan origin) between 1837 and 1839. OCTOBER 1 MO Show Movable Objects show by Violet Kulewska and Adrian Abela at the Old University Building, St Paul’s Street, Valletta, starting from 19:00. MO Show will collect unique pieces of furniture found in Malta – from bars, restaurants, private houses, garages, streets, secondhand shops etc. There will be also original movable objects built from reclaimed and sustainable materials also combining ready-made and recycled materials, and modified furniture for this show. UNTIL OCTOBER 9 Malta Photographic Society Annual Exhibition Exhibition at the Upper Galleries of St James Cavalier, Valletta, showcasing some of the best photographs produced by Maltese Photographers during the past year. No less than 150 printed images in both colour and monochrome format as well as over 100 photographs in digital projected image format are on display. THEATRE SEPTEMBER 22-25 MADC One Act Play Festival 2011 Showcase of short plays by up-and-coming actors and directors at the MADC Clubrooms, Sta Venera. There will be five plays performed on alternate nights: Hamletmachine (director: Franco Rizzo), Three Women (director: Marta Vella) and Café A La Ionesco (director: Justin Fenech) will be performed on Thursday and Saturday. Bamboozel (director: Martina Zammit) and The Worker (director: Nicola Abela Garrett) will be performed on Friday and Sunday. The Award presentation ceremony will be held on Sunday, Septmember 25.
