The Malta International Airport Departures Lounge will be opened to the general public to allow those who rarely or never travel to ‘experience the feel’ of going through the airport.

Doors will be opening on Friday 9 December from 19:00 until midnight.

The MIA said they expect visitors to experience the same process experienced by all passengers when travelling.

“The public will be asked to ‘Check-in’ by queuing up to receive the ‘Access Card’ which will enable them to go to the Security Screening Area, where they will be screened and allowed to move on to the Schengen and non-Schengen Departures Area, as if they were travelling,” the MIA said.

The public will then enter the main Departures Lounge and be  permitted to shop or dine in the area.

“The event will also allow locals to avail themselves of the advantageous prices which are usually available to travelling passengers, especially at the beginning of the festive season,” the MIA said.

Normal airport operations at the airport will not be affected as there will not be any departing flights during the time selected.
