Industrial production in Malta increases by 3.3%
January 2012 sees an increase in industrial production of 3.3% largely due to 9.3% increase in intermediate goods production.
The index of industrial production in Malta increased by 3.3% in January 2012 compared with December 2011.
The National Statistics Office said that a total of 102.5 points were recorded for industrial production in January whereas 2011 registered 106.7 points.
Over the corresponding month of last year, working-day adjusted industrial production fell by 3.3%.
Compared with December 2011, the production of intermediate goods, energy, capital goods and consumer goods in January increased by 9.3%, 1.7%, 5.1% and 1.5% respectively.
When compared to January 2011, the index of industrial production decreased by 3.3% while the production of intermediate and consumer goods declined by 2.8% and 13.8% respectively. The production of energy and capital goods increased by 4.9% and 16.5% respectively.
