Air Malta and SITA, the airline's supplier of IT services, have successfully re-negotiated a new service contract. The new agreement will bring additional benefits to Air Malta including revised financial terms, improved IT technology, enhanced network resiliency and contractual flexibilities.

SITA is considered to be the world's leading service provider of IT solutions and communications systems to the air transport industry. It has been supplying IT services to Air Malta since 2006 and this new term will run until August 2018.

As part of its restructuring, Air Malta has been actively seeking better contractual terms with all its major suppliers, in terms of cost savings, enhanced performance and service levels. Through this agreement Air Malta will be saving around 30% on the previous contract; it will change desktop and laptops to all office based staff, whilst improving communication and collaboration services including e-mail, instant messaging, personal video-conferencing and document management, and enhance the network's resilience in the airline Operations Control Centre.

The contract will also see SITA building the required IT infrastructure at Skyparks for Air Malta as well as oversee the transfer of IT equipment.

Speaking about this agreement Air Malta Chief Executive, Peter Davies said: "Through this agreement we saw an opportunity to improve our business relationship to mutual benefit. We have had extensive and tough discussions with SITA to agree new financial terms as well as for Air Malta to be offered the-best-in-class IT solutions that we know SITA can provide. This agreement is yet another milestone in the restructuring plan of Air Malta not only because of the benefits we sought and achieved but also because we will have a solid IT infrastructure which is critical in our aviation business."

David Bakker, SITA President Europe, said: "This agreement with Air Malta is an example of how SITA's technology can deliver business improvements and efficiencies. We have worked closely with the team at the airline to design an innovative solution, using our cloud architecture that fits into the new structure and way that Air Malta does business. We look forward to working with Air Malta over the next six years."
