Monthly record passenger traffic for July at MIA
Results for first seven months of 2013 shows an increase of 8.4% when compared to the same period last year.
Following the 9.2% growth reported for the first half of 2013, passenger movements at Malta International Airport in July increased by 5.8% reaching a record number of 471,210 passengers.
In July, aircraft movements and seat capacity increased by 7.7% and 9.0% respectively over the corresponding period last year, whilst the average seat load factor (SLF) decreased by 2.5 percentage points to 82.6%. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) increased by 7.8% on that registered in July last year, whilst cargo and mail reduced by 4.2%.
All the core markets, registered increases during the month of July with Italy, Spain and Germany showing an increase of 15.5%, 5.1% and 3.2% respectively. The largest market, the United Kingdom, recorded a slight increase 0.5% and the French market increased by 0.3%.
The results for the first seven months of the year, in terms of passenger movements therefore show an increase of 8.4 % when compared to the same period last year, totalling 2.2 million passenger movements. This overall increase in the first seven months was mainly due to the increase in seat capacity.
