Air Malta presents flight tickets to ESU summer scholarship winners
The three recipients of the English-Speaking Union (ESU) summer scholarships have been presented with their flight tickets to England.
In a joint statement, ESU and national airline Air Malta plc announced that the flight tickets, partly sponsored by Air Malta, were presented by Air Malta general manager Marketing and Product Brian Bartolo in the presence of ESU Malta chairman Martin Scicluna.
Both Bartolo and Scicluna congratulated the three recipients, teacher Simone Spiteri, senior lecturer Carmel Sammut and post-graduate student Andrew Caruana Galizia.
“Air Malta is glad to be able to invest in Maltese students and help them to continue with a life-long professional experience,” Bartolo said. "We are sure that the experience gained by these students will be beneficial to our community,” he added.
Scicluna explained how although the ESU was officially launched only last May, this was the second year in succession that the ESU in Malta had successfully nominated candidates for these scholarships. “The ESU was impressed with the calibre of our nominees and this year we are sending an additional participant. ESU Malta obtained all the scholarships it could offer to Maltese candidates.”
Spiteri was attending the 2010 ESU Shakespeare Study Course Shakespeare in Stratford scholarship; Sammut, the 2010 ESU Shakespeare and his Stage Cultural Seminar for Teachers at Shakespeare’s Globe in London; and Caruana Galizia the ESU International Relations Conference 2010 in Oxford.
