Banif Bank appoints a new director
Paulo Machado Fernandes is new Banif Bank director
The Board of Directors of Banif Bank (Malta) plc has announced the appointment of Mr Paulo E. Machado Fernandes as Director of Banif Bank.
Machado Fernandes began his professional activity in the banking sector in 1985, working in the areas of finance and international financial markets at Bank of Lisbon & South Africa, in Johannesburg. Later on he moved to Banif – Banco Internacional do Funchal, SA in Portugal - and was instrumental in the integration of the Treasury and Financial Markets Departments. In 1997, Machado Fernandes joined the Santander Group, to perform similar functions in the Financial Markets and Asset Management within the retail banking and investment banking fields.
After ten years, Machado Fernandes was invited by Banif Financial Group to be part of the team responsible for setting up the Banif Bank project in Malta. He was appointed as Head of Treasury with the responsibility of setting up the Bank’s Treasury and trading room, capitalising on the extensive knowledge and expertise acquired in his career. Today he occupies the post of Chief Financial Markets and Investments Officer with responsibilities for Financial and Management Accounting, Regulatory Reporting as well as Treasury.
Machado Fernandes participates in different working committees, both at international and national levels, including Banif Bank (Malta) plc and Banif Financial Group’s Committees. He also sits on the Malta Financial Markets Committee and Malta Financial Stability Forum of the Central Bank of Malta.
