MEA to host international employers’ annual general meeting in September
Next month, the Malta Employers’ Association (MEA) would be hosting the Annual General Meeting of the international section of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE). The IOE is the world’s largest network of employers.
The MEA has revealed this in a press statement announcing that the employers’ organisation had signed a cooperation agreement with the Montenegrin Employers’ Federation.
An MEA statement explained how the cooperation agreement was signed on 22 July 2010 at the premises of the Montenegrin Employers’ Federation as part of President George Abela’s State Visit to Montenegro.
The agreement provided for possible collaboration between the two employer bodies in a number of areas, including direct contacts for the purpose of exchange of information and best practice to employers and their organisations in the field of economy, privatisation, and development, and fiscal policy, among other things.
It also provided for direct contacts for the purpose of exchange of direct contacts for the purpose of exchange of information and best practice important to employers and their organisations in the area of suggested and adopted legislation in the field of economy, privatisation, development and fiscal policy, among other things.
Moreover, the MEA-EAF agreement also provided for the definition and realisation of mutual projects concerning employers’ education in every field relating to labour law; participation in projects concerning the regional networking and strengthening the relations between employers’ organisations, and participation in international projects under the patronage of international organisations (ILO, IOE, UNDP, OECD...), and cooperation in employers’ representation on annual conferences of ILO.
Finally, the agreement also provided for participation in solving challenges of globalisation promoting the concept of social responsibility by supporting the initiative of the United Nations Global Compact and its 10 principles, sustaining and applying the set of key values in the field of human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and fight against corruption.
MEA had been in contact with the Montenegro Association for some time through its participation in the IOE at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conference which is held annually in Geneva.
