Almost 9,000 use Telecare services
emCare exhibits Telecareplus and its other solutions during Assistive Technologies for Independent Living Seminar
“We are delighted to announce that one of the services we supply and manage, Telecareplus already has 2,500 subscribers, totalling the number of local Telecare users to almost 9,000. This is a clear indication that over the past few years the need for assistive technologies for independent living has not only continued to evolve, but also that more people in Malta are taking advantage of such beneficial technologies to feel empowered while leading independent lives.”
This was stated by Roland Cachia, General Manager at emCare on 6 March during a seminar titled ‘Assistive Technologies for Independent Living’, organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disability in collaboration with the University of Malta’s Faculty of ICT.
emCare was present at the seminar to showcase and educate people about several of its healthcare devices aimed at peace of mind, accident prevention and maintaining one’s independence within the home.
Cachia also explained how one of the services managed by emCare, the Telecare system, was renamed to ‘Telecareplus’ to reflect the added value in the service. This system connects a main device in the home of the individual to a call centre, giving access to the contact details and other relevant data necessary to be able to provide the required care of the 9,000 subscribers in Malta.
In addition to the Government-subsidized Telecareplus service, emCare offers a variety of add-ons that are available for use in conjunction with Telecareplus. Close to 500 people already benefit from these add-ons which aim to give a more personalized service, thus accommodating the diversity of clients who have different requirements depending on age, character and possible health conditions, among other factors.
Among the devices exhibited by emCare at the seminar were the ‘On-Wrist Fall trigger’ which is specifically designed and developed with the intention of automatically raising an alert to the call centre when a fall is detected; the ‘Intruder Alert’ which warns the call centre of any specific danger such as the unauthorised attempt of entering a residence; and the ‘Smoke Alert’ device which is unlike other smoke alerts available in the market as it does not simply sound an alarm, but also automatically alerts the call centre as soon as the smoke is detected.
Also on display during the well-attended seminar was emCare’s mobile phone which extends the company’s interest in monitoring one’s environment, to on-the-move monitoring. The phone has been designed to be as simple to use as the user would like it to be, from using just one button all the way to GPS location, geo-fencing, medication reminders, appointments, doctor visits, camera, radio, torch, etc.
Through its multifarious solutions, emCare fuses healthcare and technology to provide continuous and real-time health and environmental monitoring.
However, the company’s commitment to the community goes beyond that of being a pioneer in healthcare solutions. The company is also a great believer in Active Ageing which is an international ongoing effort to improve the quality in the latter stages of individuals’ lives.
Such a philosophy is in line with emCare’s broader holistic vision to help people feel in charge of their own lives, not only as they age, but also throughout their lives.
