Central bank to distribute information booklet about the Euro
Central bank of Malta distributes information booklet about the Euro to households as a reference on security features of the currency
In the coming days the Central Bank of Malta will be distributing to all households an informative booklet entitled ‘The Euro – An informative guide’.
The publication is intended to serve as a handy reference on the security features of the euro currency and counterfeit detection. This booklet is the only one in the euro area which covers the security features embedded in both euro banknotes and euro coins.
An important function of euro area national central banks, including the Central Bank of Malta, is to ensure the authenticity and good quality of currency in circulation. It is primarily through education and knowledge dissemination that countries can enhance the fight against counterfeiting and thus reduce the financial damage resulting from such criminal activities.
The Bank notes that knowingly making use of counterfeit money is just as illegal as printing it. Anyone who suspects having received a counterfeit banknote or who is seeking information or training in the detection of counterfeit banknotes is requested to contact the Bank’s Currency Surveillance Unit by email on [email protected] or by calling on 2550 6012/6013.‘The Euro – An informative guide’ is available on the Central Bank of Malta’s website at www.centralbankmalta.org
