Malta to host 2017 Grant Thornton European regional meeting

Grant Thornton senior partners from across all of Europe will be meeting in Malta later this month to review the global firm’s performance in 2016 and to discuss strategy. The event will be spread over two days and will cover an array of macro topics including Brexit, its effect on cross-border business transactions and passporting, as well as blockchain and new emerging technologies.

On a local perspective, the meeting will discuss prospects for family businesses and SMEs, with a focus on business succession planning and access to finance. 

With more than 90 participants from Grant Thornton’s European and CIS regions, this will be the biggest European Regional Meeting organised by Grant Thornton to date and will also see the participation of Grant Thornton Global CEO Ed Nusbaum, and Grant Thornton Leader for Tax Services Francesca Lagerberg.

Maltese speakers include Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Governor of the Central Bank of Malta Mario Vella, and Grant Thornton Managing Partner Mark Bugeja.

As a €4.41bn global organisation of member firms with 47,000 people in more than 130 countries, the Grant Thornton brand is respected universally as one of the major global accounting organisations recognised by capital markets, regulators and international standards setting bodies. Set up in 1975, Malta’s offices have been part of the Grant Thornton network since 1990.

He said that, over the last three years, Grant Thornton International had been the fastest growing accounting organisation and was constantly evolving and developing alongside its clients.

“Hosting and participation in this meeting will allow the Malta team not only to showcase the local firm’s capabilities, but also to understand the direction and principles of strategic development of the GTI corporate network, whilst establishing useful business contacts with representatives of the firms from Eastern Europe and the CIS,” Bugeja said.
