77. Autumn Buttercup
A walk on the garrigue (M: xaghri) in autumn can reward you with a sighting of the delicate Autumn Buttercup. It's not that kind of plant that will dominate the scene, because buttercups are short plants. But the bright yellow flowers more than compensate for the modest stature of the plant. We have several species of buttercup growing wild in the Maltese countryside, but the Autumn Buttercup (M: Cfolloq), as its name betrays, is the one you will most likely see in flower at this time of the year. Look closer at the flowers of the buttercup, and you will notice the petals are glossy, an unusual characteristic that renders the plant more attractive.
