78. Osprey

You see an Osprey soar low overhead, and the image stays with you forever! It is one of the most spectacular birds of prey you can behold in Malta. With that slow, measured flight on large, broad wings that span your own outstretched arms, this king among birds emanates aristocracy. We are lucky in Malta to be on the flight path of these quasi-magical creatures as they cross to and fro between their breeding and wintering grounds. It is September, so Ospreys (M: Arpa) and other raptors will be on their way to Africa. You can see them anywhere, over towns and countryside alike. Check out the skies these days, especially in the afternoon, and you may be rewarded…
