Updated | Driver in Rabat hit-and-run injured

Police have identified the driver who injured two people in a hit-and-run incident in Triq it-Tigrija, Rabat at 2:50am this morning.

"The driver is assisting the police in its investigations," the Police's communications office said.

One of the victims, a 21-year-old man from Rabat, is in critical condition. The other, a 21-year-old woman from Mellieha, suffered slight injuries.

In a statement, the police said that the two victims were amongst several pedestrians walking in the street when they were hit by the vehicle, which subsequently drove off.

Investigations were underway by the Rabat District Police in order to identify the driver, and a magisterial inquiry is underway.
