Cyclist hospitalised after traffic accident

A 60-year-old Briton was hospitalised this morning after being injured in a traffic accident in Mellieha.

Preliminary investigations suggest that around 11:00am, the cyclist was riding his bicycle toward Xemxija when for an unknown reason he crashed into a wall on the side of the road.

It is not yet known whether a vehicle hit the cyclist, but police are not ruling out the possibility.

The man was given first aid by passers-by and other drivers and was shortly after conveyed to Mater Dei Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.

Police investigations are ongoing.
